A stylish new website? We're on the case!

for State Attorney Office for the 4th Judicial Circuit

The Fourth Judicial Circuit is Florida's sixth largest trial court and covers the prosecution of all crimes committed in Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties. Staffed with around 110 attorneys and 225 support staff, it's the largest law office in Northeast Florida and still manages to be one of the most efficient trial courts in the state. State Attorney Melissa W. Nelson has held the office since her election in 2017, remaining unopposed in the 2021 and 2025 elections.

Website Redesign

Few government sites look as good as the site we designed for the Fourth District's State Attorney Office, if we do say so ourselves. A lot of official sites are living in the early 2010s (at best!) as far as appearances go, and tend to be as boring as they are dated. The old State Attorney's Office website wasn't much different, so we approached its redesign with the goal of not only styling it, but modernizing it. We figured there really was no reason why a government site should stay basic and devoid of personality, so we enhanced the old site's branding by utilizing color better, added engaging animations, used more images, and kept the site design cohesive as well as contemporary.

Mobile Optimization for a Full Experience

Over half of all web traffic is mobile web traffic, which means websites have to ensure that mobile users are getting just as good an experience as those visiting via desktop computer or laptop. We always keep responsiveness in mind when designing and developing a website, and this was especially important for the State Attorney's Office website. People need to be able to access the information provided by the site no matter where they are or what device they're using, whether it's to get information on filing criminal charges, finding legal resources, accessing the CIP portal for prosecutors and defense attorneys, or looking up a recent court case.

User Friendly Design & Development

We've mentioned how dated government sites often are from an aesthetics perspective, but they're also usually clunky in the user experience department as well. When we made updates to how the State Attorney's Office website looked, we also knew we needed to keep things streamlined and manageable. We applied our information architecture know-how to ensure the site was structured in a way that would make the most sense to site visitors, and also kept the site's Umbraco CMS backend easy to navigate for the people on the SAO team who would be making regular content changes. This was especially important for the News section of the site, which relays new information about ongoing cases to the general public.

Logo redesign

It's not every day you get to redesign the official logo for your local State Attorney's office, so we really wanted to hit it out of the park when we got the chance. We didn't want the logo to be as stuffy as your standard government logo, but we did want to retain the professionalism necessary for such a serious and important office. We designed a logo using clean lines and simple shapes for maximum versatility, and while the initial standard design of the logo makes good use of the new brand colors, we also made sure it would look great in black and white. Or just white, or just black, or—you get the picture.
