Building a brand, brick by brick

for Brick and Beam

Situated on the border of the historic Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville and the city’s Downtown, Brick and Beam is an event venue with rustic charm and a rich past. The building underwent a recent renovation in order to transform it into the perfect space for casual events, holiday parties, birthdays, weddings, and community gatherings. Whether one sets their eyes on the minimalist (and apt, given the location’s name) exposed brick interior or the open, airy back porch for their celebration, Brick and Beam is well-equipped for virtually any event.

The Website

Brick and Beam might have something of an antique aura to it, but they’re truly modern at heart, accepting everything from elegant wedding receptions to flashy and fun birthday parties. We wanted to capture Brick and Beam’s unique blend of new and old in a contemporary site with some design touches inspired by a bit of their vintage aesthetic.

Since Brick and Beam is first and foremost selling the versatility and appeal of itself as a venue, its sleek, stylish website also had to allow for a lot of photography without any page feeling over-crowded or chaotic. It couldn’t all be about looks, though – we also made sure Brick and Beam’s site was easy to navigate, full of information relevant to visitors, and responsive enough that it didn’t matter if someone was scouting for venues on their computer at home or on their phone on the go.

Behind the scenes, developing the Brick and Beam site on the user-friendly Umbraco system made it super easy for the clients to add galleries and update events.

Building the Brand

The process of developing a brand doesn’t always start from scratch, but that was the case for Brick and Beam. With just a name, the look of the venue, and a general concept to go by, we set to work creating brand assets that represented Brick and Beam’s individual style.

Much like the venue location itself, we kept things simple but versatile: we designed three separate (but cohesive) logos to ease the headache of space limitations on signs and merchandise, an uncomplicated but pleasing brick-inspired color palette, and an overall look and feel that could conceivably represent any kind of event hosted at the venue. Fun enough for birthday bashes. Classy enough for weddings. Rustic enough for neighborhood barbecues.

“Starting a new business is not easy & we knew we needed a top of the line website.  Tony & his team are amazing. Brad created our logo in a matter of days because he really listened to us.  The whole team was in constant contact during the website building process & they knocked it out of the park. We couldn’t be happier with them & the way everything turned out.”
