Helping them help girls succeed

for Pace Center for Girls

Pace Center for Girls was established in 1985 in Jacksonville, Florida as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that set out to help girls and young women with education, mental health, life skills, and socialization. After expanding through Florida and even starting some programs in Georgia, Pace has now helped more than 40,000 girls and is recognized as one of the nation’s leading juvenile justice preventative models for girls and young women from age eleven to seventeen. By providing one-on-one education and mental health support, plus group activities specifically tailored to help them grow and learn, Pace is able to pinpoint the unique challenges some girls face and work with them to overcome those challenges and begin a lifetime of success.

Website Redesign

By 2025, Pace had gone through a couple partial website design refreshes for specific sections of the site. It was time for a complete design update that was cleaner, more cohesive, and better utilized some of their secondary branding colors for a more visually interesting look and feel. We got to work designing a modern, bright and colorful website with plenty of graphics that kept things interesting, including a lot of photos of students Pace has helped over recent years, interview videos, and direct quotes from current and past Pace girls. The design concept avoids flashiness and instead tries to present Pace as the friendly but professional non-profit it is.

Creating customizable content

One of the biggest changes when revamping Pace's website was updating its Umbraco CMS backend, not only in terms of the actual version number, but also in how the backend functioned and how easy it was to edit content and make changes. We moved toward a far more customizable and reusable widgets system that allowed for almost complete control of how each page on the website looked, while also making sure everything still fit within the design concept and company branding. To make things even better, we designed and developed these widgets with responsiveness as a priority and made sure every section of every page would always look good, no matter what device was being used to display it.

Center Locations

While Pace's mission statement of helping girls and young women succeed never changes, the locations where it does that often do. Because of this, we had to establish a Locations section of their website that provided all the relevant information on what kind of programs it operated in each place, address and contact info, and related linksand we had to make sure these location pages could easily be edited, added, or removed as things changed. We also implemented a geolocation-based SEO strategy, and knowing that many people would be landing directly on these location pages from a search engine meant they had to thoroughly explain what Pace did and how to get involved without seeming repetitive or redundant.

A sleek and stylish new blog

When redesigning the Wordpress blog for Pace to match the new main site redesign, the goal was to create a much cleaner, more modern look while also reorganizing content into three main categories: regular blog posts, spotlight stories about girls Pace has helped, and news articles and press releases mentioning Pace and all the great things they do. These larger categories plus the standard Wordpress tagging system allowed for a much better organized blog with different types of high quality, relevant posts that could be easily located by visitors.
